Italian eyewear maker Super debuted a new frame for the recent Bread & Butter Berlin tradeshow. The RSF’s key design elements are a straight upper lip, and open bottom. Standard Italian construction and crystal clear lenses by Zeiss make for top notch quality. This brown tortoise shade was specially made for Bread & Butter Berlin. Only 180 pieces were made and have been individually numbered. Now available from Caliroots.
The 5th Annual Afro-Punk Festival has been taking place in Brooklyn since last week, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s parking lot. New events have been taking place each day including film screenings, music, skating, BMX bike competitions, art, and just cool people and good times. I was there on Sunday enjoying the rock performances “white music for black people” by new talents, crazy tricks by the BMX team, as well as live paintings being done on the spot by artists such as Ibrahim Yaqut, Toofly, and Dister. On Monday Janelle Monae performed as Well as Saul Williams.
I knew Janelle was a bit unusual but I finally got to see her in person and she was quite cool. She is known to give passionate performances and was shaking, gyrating and dancing on the stage. She even stopped mid song to finish a painting which she later gave away to a little girl in the crowd.
Saul is another character with his face painted white, feathers and loud jacket. His drummer was wearing a jacket that lit up very cool. I’ve never seen him perform or even heard his work really, but he has quite a talent. The realness of his poetry in combination with the crazy beats was truly an experience.
Unfortunately the festival is coming to an end this week but the Afro-Punk Block Party will take place on July 12th from 12-8 on Clinton Avenue between Myrtle and Willoughby. So stop by for a day full of crafts, music, performances, art, food, fashion, dancing, and fly ass afro-rockers!
